i found this to be quite true as i have been working on the surreal collage drawing for the last few weeks. while working on it, i find myself deep in thought about the meaning of the piece and all that it entails in my life.

drawing 2 :: surrealist collage drawing

drawing 2 is currently doing a figurative surrealist collage drawing based on the work of the szekely sisters and rené magritte.

our art department goal this year deals with the intentional use of color. i am using this artwork to fulfill the goal. in class, we are talking about the value and intensity of colors and how they influence how a viewer sees a work. we are using different magazines from different eras to give a variety of values, intensities, and color ranges.

here is the example that i am working on, along with one piece each from the szekelys and magritte.

artist of the week :: rené magritte

currently in drawing 2 we are doing a surrealist drawing based on the work of the szekely sisters (see the previous post about them here) and this week's artist of the week, rené magritte.

magritte's work takes surrealism in a very playful, dada-inspired direction rather than the seriously dramatic work of his contemporary, salvador dalí.

his use of silhouettes and surreal textural elements play with the viewers perception of reality and create a definite dream-like world.

sometimes great things happen... the collision of two of my favorite artistic entities. shepard fairey designed two posters commemorating the black keys first headlining dates at madison square garden.

AP art show 2012

on monday night, march 12, webster thomas high school's AP ART class will be hosting an opening for our art exhibit, which will take place at the owl house.

we would love if it you would join us for a night of great art, food, and company.

adam milne game. be there!

so my basketball experience is not that deep. i mean, gym class in school, HORSE in the driveway, and most recently some razorsharks games.
this friday night I'm taking my skills to the court (for the second straight year) as WTHS teachers take on IHS teachers in the annual adam milne game.

it is a great event that raises (a lot of) money for the leukemia and lymphoma society. i designed the tshirts this year. bring in $5 and join TEAM STAHL. you'll have to cheer extra hard because i'll probably only be playing for about 5 minutes.

Seung Chan Lim, better known as Slim, holds a BS in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University where he studied under the late Dr. Randy Pausch. He also holds an MBA from Point Park University and has recently graduated with an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

For nearly a decade he has worked as both a Human-Centered Design consultant and a Software Systems Researcher. He has helped numerous fortune 500 companies design innovative products and services, and have authored papers on software systems and human-computer interaction.

Products he have helped design have won a number of awards including the AIGA 365, CES Innovation award, EC&M Product of the Year, and Infoworld Top 100 IT Project of the Year.

In his spare time he directs dance performances, and mixes, remixes, composes, produces, and performs electronic music.
